I believe that words are powerful. Impactful quotations and proverbs are expressions of collective wisdom. The core ideas of many quotes are found across diverse cultures around the world, as well as in ancient writings, both spiritual and secular. The person who becomes known for a particular organization of words is expressing some aspect of our collective consciousness as human beings that has existed for centuries. This is why so many quotes feel so "right", like we have the wisdom somewhere within in us already.

I originally started a blog in 2007 called "Empowered Everyday", a site for posting inspiring and empowering quotations. Each quote was accompanied by a question and an affirmation/mantra to facilitate deeper exploration of the wisdom within the quote and to encourage application of the wisdom to one's own life. The collective wisdom quotes and proverbs that I have posted represent various historical times, as well as contemporary reflections. The quotes have been intentionally inclusive of women, diverse cultures and spiritual traditions. The quotes are selected with the intention of facilitating reconnection with some fundamental truths and providing inspiration towards empowered living and optimal functioning. Each entry also included a "FOCUS AND FLOW" QUESTION, as well as an affirming focused-thought. 

The blog morphed several times over the years.  In 2008, I started periodically including writing prompts for journaling to offer more structure for exploration and application. After playing around with different media formats and content in 2010, I returned to focusing on the wisdom found in words in 2011. In 2012, I reconceptualized the posts as "THE DAILY DEEP BREATH".  The posts can be understood as tools for pausing to take a centering deep breath that can help us reset in the midst of stress and being in automatic pilot mode.  

The simple act of stopping activity for a moment, taking a deep breath, exhaling, and centering ourselves in a short affirmation, declaration, or mantra-- can help us tap into the power and wisdom within. When we can remember the essence of  who we are and the fundamental truths of living, we are able to live from an empowered core, sustain positive well-being, emanate positive energy, and contribute to the positive development of others and to our planet.
